New Braunfels With Kids: An Easy Family Itinerary

New Braunfels is built for families. Almost everything worth doing here involves water, shade and a short drive.
Day one: Schlitterbahn
Schlitterbahn's original park uses the natural river as part of the ride system, which still sets it apart from newer waterparks. Go at opening, claim shade early and plan to leave by mid afternoon when the crowds and heat peak.
Bring your own towels and water shoes. Lockers are available, but a bag you can carry between the two park sections saves time.
Day two: Landa Park and the Comal
Landa Park has a spring fed pool, a miniature train, paddle boats and enough oak shade to survive a July afternoon.
The Comal tube chute nearby is the single best kid moment in town for anyone tall enough to ride it, and the river is short enough that a float rarely turns into a meltdown.
Day three: animals, bakeries and downtown
Animal World and Snake Farm Zoo is a reliable rainy day plan. Downtown has bakeries, ice cream and a plaza where kids can burn off energy while adults sit down.
Why a condo beats a hotel room with kids
Separate bedrooms mean early bedtimes still work. A kitchen means breakfast without a restaurant wait. A washer and dryer means one swimsuit per kid instead of five.
Our two bedroom condos sleep four comfortably, and the one bedrooms work for smaller families. The courtyard pool, ping pong and grill area give everyone somewhere to go after a park day.
